Collection location: Forest near Elgin St., Pembroke, Ontario, Canada [Click for map]

45.806696° -77.138456°

Who: Paul Derbyshire (Twizzler)

No specimen available

Notes:
Below and right of the prominent Xanthomendoza hasseana that is centered in the frame. Dark yellowish apothecia, smaller, darker, and less orange than X. hasseana’s; no evident thallus, so this may be crusty and blending in with the bark behind it.

On a standing quaking aspen in Zone 14.

The thallus for this one hides under the bark? How does it photosynthesize in there?
