online account of A. parcivolvata.
http://www.amanitaceae.org/?Amanita parcivolvata

The account lists powdery yellow volval remains on the stipe. But, for this observation (76053) the caked yellow stuff surrounding the area where the stipe comes out of the ground looks like flavoconia remains to me. Ret’s parcivolvata cap description includes “strongly striate margin” for the cap.

Generally, one needs to see the stipe base in order to get a good start on an Amanita ID.

doesn’t seem to be red enough and lacks the striations that A. parcivolvata would be showing even at this stage and the yellow, friable veil remnants on the ground is usually characteristic of A. flavoconia and a few other Amanitas, but not A. parcivolvata as far as I know.

Would you care to explain why you are doubting this proposed ID, Bob Zimmer?
