The aerolate cap of this Appendiculati species and the time of fruiting in montane areas (typically under Red Fir) matches quite well Thiers’ concept of B. abieticola.

What about a new name for it?

Instead of Boletus regius you could call it Boletus praesidenticus or ameriregius.
