Clive Shirley has a image of a Fungi that also has some close resemblance & appearance to the posted image. “Lentaria surculus”
I have not been able to get an image to check against for Lentaria surculus, but I do think if the New Zealand fungi is found in Australia, then it is a closer identification.

One of my standard comments – to suggest something general with any idea about anything specific… But if I saw this, I would think, Clavulina sp., and look at the color and and think, but not like any I know about… Before I would call it a Ramaria.
Yes Douglas I have certainly looked at every reference I have access to, to get the closest result. I could not find any Clavia that has the same or similar characteristics. I am open for suggestion if you can give me an alternative in Clavia instead of my choice and am looking to learn. Did you check out Clive Shirley’s Lentaria surculus? I dont know which family it belongs to.. (KK)
This one looks more like a Clavulina than a Ramaria, but not like I know Australian species…
