I have found Strobilurus growing with a cone in sight (even after exhaustive searching…) but then they are usually on the wood of the tree whose cone they would usually grow. Any Douglas fir nearby?

That was my first gut instinct…..

As well. Maybe there are cones buried or decomposing there.

Perhaps Strobilurus?

The shape and colors of the fruitbodies remind me to a Strobilurus species. What do you think about?
