Observation 79450: Mycetinis salalis (Desjardin & Redhead) Redhead

When: 2011-10-12

Collection location: Southeastern Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Washington, USA [Click for map]

Who: Sava Krstic (sava)

Specimen available

Spore size (16-18 × 3.5-4 microns) and smell of garlic would, according to Matchmaker, identify this mushroom uniquely as M. salalis. However, the described habitat of M. salalis is leaves of salal or Oregon grape, while here we have a branch and twigs of alder.

This collection was taken on the same day as observation 79447 (substrate = leaves of Oregon grape), a few kilometers away.
