Life imitating Fungi!

I photographed this lurking (walking) stick while photographing fungi, but on looking at the photo, I suspect that the dots on the leaves below the insect are fungi attacking the leaf. The ‘stem’ or body of the insect has dots that have the same pattern as the dots on the leaf. Of course plant (tree) stems often have dots, too, but I thought it interesting that the camouflage works here too; or was developed as a response to the presence of this fungi.
