The interesting thing I thought about this polypore-type fungi was that it was growing from a mature Scotch Broom “stem” (approx 1.5" in diam).

I’m not familiar with the foliage stages of scotch broom, but it was devoid of any green. Some seed pods were still hanging on, and it wasn’t rotten though, so it could just have been dormant for the winter?
