Recognized by sight: big ’un; thought at first from above that it was a bolete!
Decurrent gills, vinaceous staining etc. set me straight.

I will try to scope this today, although its huge stature indicates pseudovinicolor. I’ve never found them quite so large before.

Base on the cap color of the first two photos and the stocky size pseudovinicolor is promising. It probably is growing with/on Suillus pseudobrevipes

silly boy.

the one pictured in the third pic also under pine?

And since when has being in a “no pick zone” stopped any of us from picking?

Oh, wait…

There, I didn’t see it in the last photo, but in the first photo there is clearly pine needles. Either 2- or 3-needle pine, I can’t quite tell which.

I’m not going to your meeting… It’s the same night as that other club, the one that has had their meetings on that set date for years… I’ll go to one of the other great(er) Bay Area clubs to see Matt Trappe speak.

Pine, where is the pine?

I see live oak duff there, but where is the pine? These should be under pine, not live oak… Or I think D. fir maybe also…

they were there. didn’t pull it from the ground, since it was a “no-pick” zone.
there might be one very similar at the BAMS meeting on Tuesday, though.

BTW Noee, please don’t call me Dude, it’s disrespectful. I am a Dudette.
