Thelephora terrestris

when growing luxuriantly will envelope whatever is around including the base of trees. That being said this looks like something else.

I can’t think of any other species but Thelephora terrestris, especially looking at its fuzzy tips. But that one is supposed to grow on the ground, not envelope tree trunks. I’m stumped.

Envelops stems

This mushroom envelops both small plant stems and tree trunks. Upper surface is fuzzy, bottom is smooth (kind of like Thelephora terrestris).
