Observation 8628: Ganoderma resinaceum group

When: 2008-07-30

Collection location: Madison Heights, Pasadena, California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Jason Hollinger (jason)

No specimen available

Shelf fungus at base of living coast live oak. Growing from scar left by lawnmower. Up until this year it was a gnarled ugly lump of a mushroom, but this year it’s finally grown into a beautiful highly-varnished set of shelves. Spore print is clear visible on lower cap surface: cinnamon brown. There is no stalk whatsoever, so can this still be Ganoderma lucidum?
