and it’s covered in fungus, but not the sort that would have been responsible for its death. the fungus is some sort of mold, either Zygomycetous or Ascomycetous (difficult to tell w/out microscopy). furthermore, I see no stroma(ta) indicating a Cordyceps-like infection as the cause of death. I’d say your caterpillar died of… something, and then became lunch for some mold.
