I/KI is a poor man’s Melzers..

i.e. Melzers without the Chloral Hydrate. It’s a combination of Iodine and Potassium Iodide. It can give an amyloid reaction similar to Melzers but not as reliable. I use it occasionally on white spores that are not amyloid but need to get enough staining to see better and photograph under the microscope.
