Recognized by sight: At present, all red muscarioid material from Colorado has proven to be Amanita muscaria subsp. flavivolvata (A. amerimuscaria Tulloss & Geml nom. prov.). As the provisional name indicates. It is presently believed on the basis of both genetic and morphological evidence that the material from Colorado that has been examined belongs to a species distinct from the Eurasian A. muscaria.
