Used references: Smith, Smith & Weber’s “How to know the Non-Gilled Fungi”. “Fruiting body 2-6 cm high, depressed globose to bowl-shaped or turbinate, attached by a small pad of dirt and mycelium or a rhizomorph, exoperidium of soft spines and granules, falling away by late maturity; endoperidium smooth, grayish, rather shiny, with a wide, often lobed, apical opening … In grassy areas west of the Great Plains, especially in the Pacific Northwest. The name Vascellum depressum was used for this species in the previous edition.”
