Observation 9379: Amanita silvicola Kauffman

When: 2007-11-04

Collection location: Tillamook Co., Oregon, USA [Click for map]

Who: Daniel B. Wheeler (Tuberale)

No specimen available

Photographed 4 Nov. 2007 in Tillamook Co. This is an Amanita smithiana button, the volva mostly not seen. It is often found in this area growing near if not among Tricholoma magnivelare, which is why one should be VERY sure of identification before eating. Oddly, both species have an aroma of cinnamon red-hots, although in my opinion the Amanita has a weaker odor.
