Used references: Arora, Mushrooms Demystified, said to be on the East Coast. The bulbous base is different from any Thelephora I’ve personally seen before. But I haven’t seen that many.

could this Thelephora be growing off of an aborted polypore of some kind?

So 5-6 inches wide?

I could be wrong then. That’s a monster for a Thelephora. I rarely find anything larger than 2 inches above ground, or 2 inches wide.

4-5 inches (total size) is probably a good estimate.

If this is under 2 inches total height, Thelephora would be a good match I think.

Looks like a Thelephora, although the thick base is new to me.
