Used references: Arora, Mushrooms Demystified, p 71. Matches description. No apparent yellow staining except for older, expanded cap surface. No mention of acrid taste here, but no mention of taste period. No mention of potential host trees either. Nearby trees help key mycorrhizal species such as this. Similar to L. pseudodeceptivus I’ve seen in PNW. Without the dreaded microscopy, can’t be certain.
